Our Community

Somerford Place in Encinitas, California has only 56 residences, enabling our trained and caring staff to take an individual approach to the care for your loved one.

Our Home-Like Design
Our community was specifically designed for those with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.  Each of the four neighborhoods – Hampton Court, Pheasant Run, English Garden and Seaside – has 12 private rooms and two semi-private selections. Every neighborhood also includes a family room, a dining room and a kitchen. The neighborhoods surround a common area with attractively landscaped courtyards and walking paths.
Everything about our neighborhoods – from bathroom design to staffing – has been determined by best-practice research on Alzheimer's Care building design and care planning.
Each neighborhood has a unique identity and décor to assist residents in finding their way independently.  The neighborhoods are designed with "memory-triggers" so a resident never feels lost.  Residents can come out of their room and immediately see what is going on, see familiar items such as a dining room table and stroll easily to activities.
Residents who want to get up in the middle of the night to make themselves a sandwich or have some conversation can do so in the company of trained staff.
Our Residents' Decor

Our residents have the option to furnish their own rooms to reflect their own personal taste. Or, our community can provide a comfortable double bed, nightstand, lamp and dresser, and your loved can bring his or her treasured keepsakes and memories to make Somerford home.
Our Outdoors Environment

A nature reserve is located directly in front of the community and is home to an exceptional number of animals and plants. Our enclosed backyards and courtyards provide safe access to the outdoors and help give our residents a sense of freedom.
Our Philosophy of Individualized Care

We discover our residents’ abilities and their background, and we consider both their cognitive and physical health when planning the best care. Our goal is to provide personalized care while enriching each resident’s life and preserving his or her dignity. Residents at Somerford Place Encinitas gain a sense of security and feeling of being loved.
The result is a philosophy of caring for our residents like family.

Our Signature Approach to Memory Care

Somerford at Encinitas offers a Five Star Quality Care signature program for Alzheimer’s and memory care. Bridge to Rediscovery: Celebrating Life through Rediscovery is inspired by the Montessori-style approach used for education throughout the world.
Now applied to dementia care, the Montessori tradition focuses on the individual’s unique needs and situation, and helps them learn through meaningful, hands-on activities designed to help them continue to engage with the world around them.
Bridge to Rediscovery: Celebrating Life through Rediscovery is a winner of the prestigious Assisted Living Federation of America's (ALFA) “Best of the Best Awards."  We are proud to offer this award-winning program to our residents.
Our Friendly Staff
Somerford has Alzheimer’s care-trained staff 24 hours a day, and skilled nursing from 6 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Compassionate, friendly, patient and knowledgeable are just a few ways to describe Somerford’s team members. We pride ourselves on being selective; we hire only the best professionals and provide them with on-site training and education in memory impairment. Under the guiding hands of our trained Alzheimer's Program Director we pledge to give each resident the highest quality of care possible.
Transitioning into Care

Transitions are often difficult, but the transition into Somerford is eased because our care staff does everything possible to keep your loved-one on his or her routine when coming to our community.
Upon move-in, Somerford Place creates a care plan for each individual that details the personalized services required for your loved-one. The care plan is updated regularly to assure that the resident receives the appropriate care as his or her condition changes. When care plans are modified, our nurse hosts a family meeting to discuss the changes.
We also accommodate and welcome hospice care with our same philosophy of personalized, dedicated attention.
